Teaching a teenager to drive is always an adventure! One day I was out with my daughter as she drove a fairly long distance. I sat attentively in the passenger seat. My daughter had driven enough that I didn't feel I needed to coach her every step of the way. So I took a much more passive approach. Here's the conversation that took place:
"I don't know where I'm going" she said.
"I'll tell you where to go" I replied.
"Well, you're not paying attention" she responded.
I answered, "Do you think I won't tell you where to go?"
I can't help but wonder if this is how God builds trust in us. God lets us take off, both hands on the wheel, headed in the right direction. He gives us enough warning if we're to make a turn so that we know He's there encouraging us to gain more freedom.
My daughter had a lesson on trust that day and to tell you the truth, so did I!
